Heroes Don’t Run: A Novel of the Pacific War.
By Harry Mazer.

This book is about a boy named Adam Pelko who joins the Marines. His Father fought at Pearl Harbor and was killed. His Grandfather fought and was wounded in World War I. He lost his arm when he was wounded. Adam lied to his mom and said he was going to visit his Grandpa, but he was really going to join the Marines. Once he was in the Marines, he never thought it would be so rough.
In the morning, you would only have 15 minutes to shower, shave and be in line ready to run, march, or drill. Every now and then, Adam would write a letter to his best friend, Davi, at Pearl Harbor or his mom back home at Bakersfield, California. You would have to be up at 5 o'clock in the morning every day.. Every night, when lights went out you had to go to sleep. Adam said that boot camp was the hardest thing he had ever done in his life. They had punishments that you could not believe.
In December of 1944, they were issued rifles: World War I, .30 caliber 1903 Springfield's. By the end of the month they had moved out to the ranges. The targets were up to 500 yards away. By the next year they were posted for advanced training otherwise known as FMF, Fleet Marine Force, at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Camp Lejeune is a combat training camp. After they were there for a few days they were issued new rifles .30 caliber semiautomatic MIs, bayonets, hand grenades, and KA-BARS, otherwise known as, the marine fighting knife. Adam and the other troops are sent overseas to Okinawa the spring of 1945. You will find that this book has a lot of information about World War II.

Do you like a book with action, adventure, and drama? And do you happen to like cats? Then Warriors, Dark River is the book for you. It’s the second book in the third series, the Power of Three. The story is about the Three, who are three cats who were chosen by prophesy. They are Jaypaw, Lionpaw, and Hollypaw. The book is about the Three dealing with the troubles of daily warrior life. There are four clans, Thunderclan, who live in the forest, Windclan, who live on the moorland, Riverclan, who live by the marshy streams, and Shadow clan, who live in the dark, dense pine forests. The Three are Thunderclan. But when Lionpaw begins seeing Heatherpaw, a Windclan apprentice in secret, and when Riverclan is forced to live on the gathering island in their territory, tensions arise between three clans, Riverclan, Thunderclan, and Windclan. This book is a good book, and I’d recommend it.

War Dog Heroes

War Dog Heroes
by Jeannette Sanderson

What do you think of when I say war heroes? You might think of a soldier. But I think of a dog. You see, dogs played an important role in WWII, WWI and other wars because of their good sense of smell. Some dogs would find wounded soldiers. Some delivered messages and could duck under gun fire. There were also dogs that sniffed out bombs or land mines. There are many good stories about these heroes in this book. War Dog Heroes is a book that you should read!

Summer Ball
by Mike Lupica

Danny Walker, a thirteen year old, has already led his basketball travel team to the championship and now he is going to Right Way Basketball Camp. There he faces old rivals and new challenges. First, he gets put in a cabin for 11-12 year olds. There he meets Zack Fox, a kid who would rather be at home than at a basketball camp. Then, he gets put on a team that has Rasheed Hill on it. He played for the team Danny beat in the travel finals. Rasheed and their new coach don’t think Danny should even be on the court.
The bad news just keeps on coming. He gets yelled at a lot by his coach. He makes some bad plays in games where his team should have won. He only gets to play one quarter. As his team moves closer to the championship, can Danny urge himself to keep on trying as hard as he can? Read it and find out!
This was a great book and I highly recommend it. It is a great book for people who love sports, but don’t like to read as much. The plot keeps you wanting to read more. It is an awesome book and I would rate it ten out of ten. Enjoy reading, Summer Ball.
